I want a SMALL or medium sized dog! I have a large yard, I need an obediant dog that I can train easily. No collies! That includes Lassie dogs and Border collies! I'd also like a dog that has low shedding and good health!Plus, it must be cute, gentle, and non-biting! Good lap dogs preffered!

I don't think there is a answer to this question based on dog breed. For example, we have three dogs, a mutt and two pure bred golden retrieves. They are all great dogs, but the mutt is the most obedient and loveable of the lot. There is too much variability in individual dogs, and too much depends on you as an owner.

Go to a pet shelter and see what they have. Play with the puppies, select one that is friendly and no too skittish. The rest of its character (obedience, dominance, etc.) is really up to you, i.e. if you put in the time to train the dog and if you are a good and patient owner then it will have many of the characteristics you desire.

Either go to a dog show and see the different breeds (and talk to their breeders/owners) or get yourself a good all-breed book and look at the photos. When you find a dog you like the looks of, research that breed for character traits, inherent health problems, match the breed's energy level to yours.

There is no such thing as a certain breed that has all the traits you asked for. Any breed can have those traits if you put the time and effort into them. A dog is not a robot, it's a living, breathing animal and you get out of them what you put into them.

First, do you knw if there's a length or weight difficulty? some apartments do no longer enable canines over a definite weight or particular breeds of canines. Having a extensive canines in an place of residing isn't merciless. extremely, if one has an lively breed like a Golden or a Lab, as long as their workout desires are met and that they get of venture to stretch their legs, then the dimensions of the residing area isn't an argument. I stay in a borough of NYC, there are a lot of extensive canines residing in apartments and doing nicely. yet, there are people who stay interior the rustic, their canines are chained up exterior or expected to workout themselves interior the outdoor. i do no longer frequently recommend breeds, yet what's composed of innovations is a beagle. they are to no longer enormous, they take exhilaration in trekking, cycling and outdoor activities and would do nicely accompaning you to the sturdy and with staying out of the horses way. of direction, there is often the labs & goldens. As for the canines being obedient and having the flexibility to stay close to you without being on leash, is greater of a coaching situation than a breed situation.

one thing first EVERY DOG BITES! dont care what people say, if the dog ever feels threatened it will bite. poodles (i saw that answer earlier can be a little on the viscious side). labs and retrievers are good dogs but a pit is very trainable (more so then labs and retrievers) but are biters. labs and retrievers are good dogs.
please remember though all dogs bite, that will never change.
