People don't have complete control over their brain (or any part of the autonomic/nervous system) but they can control how they react to certain stimuli and situations.
Let's say the the "fight or flight" reaction was triggered in the brain (relayed from the sensory cortex of the brain through the thalamus to the brain stem, bringing on an intense and prolonged discharge of the locus ceruleus that activates the sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system...i.e. this is an automatic response of the brain) and a person felt such fear or anger that they felt they had to lash out at someone. Even though this built in response of the brain was triggered the person (through reason and problem solving and weighing in the possible consequences of lashing out at someone) CAN control how they will act from that point on.
The brain is so complex and there's much that isn't understood. It's more than random firings of neurons and instinctive reactions. The human brain gives us the ability to create, love, hate, problem solve, reach for greater spiritual awareness, feel compassion, and countless other things. Being human is more than the built in actions of the brain, it's the spirit and soul of a person and the beauty of what makes us all unique.

Who says we can't? Surely other people control our brains from the moment we are born. The process of becoming an individual, growing up, seeing reality, becoming enlightened - call it what you will is as I see it about reprogramming our badly programmed brains. Human beings as they are add up to a whole messy nothing. Control our brains on the other hand and we put the whole house in order and become FULLY human.
This is the essence of a practice like meditation for example, where it has been shown that the brain waves of serious practitioners are substantially different in a state of deep concentration and relaxation.
What do you mean by a husband question - your husbands question or a question meant for husbands - or what? I don't get that bit!

Now, The brain is an organ of two halves. 1 side deals with thought and the creation of, those thoughts. and the other, deals with the motor skills(movement). what I think you seem to be questioning are emotions. are they a product of the brain or the heart. I read that new research has found that the heart puts out the same kind of electrical patterns as the brain's neural network, meaning, the heart itself has its own brain and memory.
People that have had transplants have recollection's and memories from the organ donor's life.
Some women may claim that men now have three brain's and not one of them any good. But what do I know I am just a male with that new found brain.
As for controlling it/them, yes we can! to a degree, it's called discipline and will power.
Find a good tai chi / meditation class and unlock new power's from your own brain / mind. you
will be amazed.
Forget the husband and follow your own mind.

Wow two questions in one!! Sounds more like a riddle...a human being is a bipedal, higher sentient mammal, viviparous (live birth), 44autosomes and a pair of sex determinant chromosomes, communal living, strong maternal instincts(females), has sex for recreation and procreation.
The brain is an organ and like other organs we can't control them. Brains have two levels of function and control. The lower level controls all involuntary movements like; breathing, digesting, and heartbeat. Then there is the higher level in the brain that we are able to control like; reasoning, thinking, and making concepts for understanding processes.
So to answer your husbands question. We DO control our higher order brain, but not our lower order brain (well not that well). Because we would just simply die...j/k Its because those functions are hardwired to our nervous system (NS) That's all they know what to do. We can hold our breath until we pass out but then our autonomic system takes over so we don't die.
I hope this helps!

Well a human being is a mammal with self-awareness, and the ability to adapt to it's environment more than other animals. We also have a higher intellectual ability than any other creature, and can philosophise. We can control some aspects of our brain, like some of what we think about, yet some things are thought about sunconsciously . Also organs are not controlled by us consciously -that's our bodies job. They run themselves -just like we can't help reflexes like a knee-jerk reaction.

What are you thinking about. The brain is the computer of the body. If you can control the brain, you will need 2 brains don't you think? Its like saying why doesn't the car drive the engine. Frankly, your question is a stupid one. Get me?

A human being is a creature that fulfills criteria set forth by us such as stating that humans have emotions, can think more logically etc. We are of the species Homo Sapiens.
How many organs can you control exactly? I personally know I can't control the wide majority of my organs.

Our brain is an organic mass. It is not who we are...just as our physical body is "not" who we are. We certainly would like to think we are in control...however, it is our unconscious, nonconscious, subconscious mind that is in control. It is where our habits are created, and where our memories are stored. It is our subconscious that is in control - Not the organic, physical brain.
We are spiritual beings (energy) inhabiting an organic physical body that will eventually deteriorate and absorb back into the earth. However, our energy body does not die or can transform itself many times over (reincarnation). Without this electrical energy our phyical body would not be able to function (in other words, it would be dead).

We can control our brain. That's what medidation is all about. The higher evolved people have total control over their brain, and several other organs like their heart too.
