but when I plug anything in, I get nothing. I updated drivers etc.. It shows usb ports and I only have two.. my brain hurts.. please help!!!

First check your external device that it's working in Different computer.
Second Try uninstall and reinstall the driver.
Third Try a diff device (memory stick e.g)
Forth Try windows update
Fifth try some utility software like ibm director to detect the problem.
Last reinstall Windows.

Now, the answer to this example is to regulate both the USB ports or the finished casing. apparently, they don’t promote the USB ports one by one. Sorry yet gotta change the casing. besides, you may want to attempt asking your technician in the experience that they promote via parts, who's conscious you may want to get an effective information. a number of my personal journey, do not get A HUB. it would want to reason too a lot contemporary to bypass by ability of one USB port ultimately burning the motherboard.

double check its not what you have plugged in that's having the problem, also when in device manager right click and update the driver, allow it to search the Internet for a better driver. If that doesn't work, then I bet you have a faulty port, if your on warranty have it checked, if your not, I usb hub into the one that works would probably be alot cheaper.

Did you try reversing the ports. Whatever you have running on the good port, plug it into the bad port and see if it works or not.

It could be a physical/hardware problem. Windows never was very able to spot such things. The port-jack could be physically removed and Windows would still say it's working.

Will it to be alright to reformat your windwos ? this will be the best way out in my opinion. I did this last time when the same happend to me and it worked for me well.
