Marriage for love is a great thing, but pretty new in the history of marriage! Most marriages took place for the advancement of the family and to form a partnership for a better life. The romance was that of stories and legend. When that love did happen great stories were made of it, and that translated in to popular culture that continues today. Now we think love should be that chemical thing that happens when we first meet.

True love is more a commitment than a feeling. Over time you build respect and admiration to your life partner, and that becomes love.

Those who have it are very lucky, and work very hard at it

In the olden days a lot of people had arranged marriages. Matchmaking was "an entrepreneurial business". This is still a business in some countries, in still other countries dowries are still paid or exchanged, and this is partly a business transaction..

A lot of people aren't looking into marriage like they should. A marriage was once forever, and now it seems to be just in the moment. There are still some truly genuine marriages out there, though.

What I want to know is.. what did marriages USED TO BE? Where the woman would pay a dowry for her husband? Or her father would choose who she would marry? Now, people can make their own choices, especially women and some people make the wrong decisions. And I like to make my choice.

So I dont know about you or if you studied history, but I like that I can choose who I marry if I make the wrong decision or not.

the reason is because women are not attacted to powerless men. What I mean is that since american women earn as much money now as men.men are percieved as being less of a necessity. From what Ive seen once a woman starts earning more money then a man women often times leave.
