One of my friends have this posture problem. She is a very slim person, but her shoulders are always sunk and leaning forward as if she's trying to hide her breasts. She, after we warn her, tries to correct her posture, but although se says she feels her back quite straight, it doesn't look so.
How can we make her correct her posture? She started doing exercises for that, but they didn't make any change yet. (She's 27 years old)

Devil Woman, I'm concerned because she's my best friend, and she has a great figure and she can be even better if she had a good posture. Moreover, she's concerned too. She always complains about it.

You can try a lot of different things. There are tons of excersizes and stretches that help strengthen back muscles and will help her posture. She can try a brace or back halter (I think you can get these in local stores or consult your family doctor) that will ease some of the pull her breasts are causing and retrain her to keep her shoulders back. Elinor Roosevelt walked around with a mop handle between her arms and her back to keep straight (but that was more a sign of the times thing). More breast support like wearing a corset might help. And of course, there is breast reduction. That helps many people with the weight on the chest issue. These are some ideas. I'm sure there is more. Physical therapy is always a great way to retrain the back. It's not just for people retraining to walk you know.

Ouch -- you can make her do what my parents made me do when I was younger!! I have scoliosis and was told if I did not stand up straight, I would have to be operated on and be in a full-body cast for a year!! So, every night, my parents made me walk up and down the living room with a broomstick behind my back, held in place with my bent elbows stuck back like chicken wings and my chest sticking out! LOL!!! Oh, yes, and the book on the head, too -- I still had to be "graceful" while I walked like chicken. On the other hand, it worked. I still have scoliosis, but by spine counter-balanced itself, so my legs are the same length & most people can't even tell -- and I have *great* posture!!
Oh, BTW, use a short broomstick, or you will crash all the lamps the first time you turn around -- learned that the hard way.
Tell your friend I wish her good luck.

At 27, she should naturally carry herself fairly erect, boobs or no boobs, so this concerns me a bit. My advice would be to go to a health care professional, or perhaps a chiropractor, to be evaluated to see if she has an issue that needs to be addressed... it may be nothing, and could be corrected with exercise and posture "retraining", or it may be some minor scoliosis (spinal curvature) that could be helped by a few adjustments. Women in particular need to be mindful of their posture because as they get older they can lose calcium and bone mass, leading to osteoporosis and the "slouch" that you see in many women later in life. Calcium supplements are very useful in helping prevent this.
But I would consult a doctor or chiropractor to assess her status first.

I have the same problem sort of.....I'm very big chested so it's difficult for me to maintain a good posture without people asking why "I'm sticking my boobs out" but just tell her to put her shoulders back and have the head up and people will really be impressed!

I have this same issue. People tell me I'm not standing straight and I know this, and I try to shove my shoulders back, but because I've been this way for so long, it feels very uncomfortable to shove my shoulders back, and I'm unable to keep them back. I've thought about getting some sort of brace/restraint to pull my shoulders back, but have yet to look into it.
