Do you think that emotional impairment is real handicap ?
When I went to school there were people that went to a special place because they had such strong emotional outbursts at times.

The people you are referring to probably had psychiatric disorders. These people are disabled and suffer greatly from their impairment and from the lack of understanding by others.

are you asking whether or not its an actual condition, or whether or not its debilitating...?

the answer to both is yes... the degree to which emotional disabilities affect one's life depend on the severity of the individual case (just like with arthritis, allergies, or any other condition)... so, can it be a real handicap... ? yup!

Uh, yeah. Take a look at the mood disorders. That stuff happens, and when it happens it's usually very much out of the control of the person it's happening to. Or, at best, on the very edge of control.

Asperger's Syndrome. They don't pick up on any one else's emotions no matter how blatant they are. It's a form of autism.
