I am a guitarist and have just recently began to experiment with harmonics and was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks to share?!

I could ramble on for quite some time about the physics of string vibration as it relates to harmonics. Suffice it to say that there are several nodal points on a string that lend themselves to producing a nice harmonic ring.

Harmonics are not just limited to the 5th, 7th, and 12th frets. You can get a harmonic anywhere by placing your right thumb at the nodal point relative to any fret you are holding and plucking the string with the middle finger of the right hand. For example, if you are playing a 'G' by holding the first string down in the third fret, you can get an octave harmonic by putting the thumb of your right hand at approximately the 15th fret and plucking the string with the middle finger of your right hand.

While holding a pick in your thumb and forefinger, rest your thumb on the string 12 frets above the note you are holding and try to get a harmonic that way. Takes a lot of practice to get. ZZ TOP used that on a few songs. I think "Cheap Sunglasses" was one of them.

No but if you listen to Lamb of god, A7X, Killswitch engage you will have the guitar tabs down in your head and when you get home you will be able to do them really well, no clue on harmonics sorry

Best advice: don't overuse harmonics!

It makes a nice garnish but a lousy sauce!
