I just got a bubble down on the bottom of my screen that says my computer is running low on virtual memory. When I hit ctrl, alt, delete it says my comp. is running at about 90% capacity. I have used McAffee to scan for viruses(no results) as well as AdAware and SpyBot for spyware searches(no results) and my comp. is still running extremely slow. What can I do to fix my problem??

You do not have enough RAM to support the programs you are running. In order to try and make up for this the system is spooling stuff off to the hard drive. In your case, this is still not enough. You need more RAM. Also the McAfee may actually be the cause of your slow down as opposed to preventing it.

Either purchase more ram to add to your system or dedicate more of your hard drive to virtual memory.

To dedicate more space:
Go to your control panel.
Click on system.
The advanced tab.
In the performance box click the settings button.
Click the advanced tab.
Then hit the change button in the virtual memory box.
Click system managed size for best results.
If that is already clicked set the custom size, and put in the boxes 512 and 512.
Then finally click set.

Now really the best option is to add more ram to your system. For more information on that contact your systems manufaturer.

If it is a DELL, shut the computer down....

start it back up, press F2 at the dell logo

this will take you to the BIOS, once you get there, make sure that the CAP, NUM, AND SCROLL locks are all on

press alt e, release
press alt f, release
press alt b, release

the computer should restart, if it doesn't, press escape, and go to save changes and exit

OH, BY THE WAY, I AM A DELL CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN, AND THIS WILL IN NO WAY **** UP YOUR COMPUTER....

It generally happens bcoz of insufficiant RAM memory. some bigger applictions requires more memory than RAM. then this OS has facility to use some part of HD as virtual memory.
obviously this works slower than RAM. generally the virtual memory is set twice that of RAM but u can change it in windows. Mycomputer(right click)>properties>advanced >performance(settings)>advanced tab
there u'll see virtual memory option just set INITIAL size bigger than whatever is at present.
but yaa it takes space frm ur HDD. n it slows down ur operation (not at extent dont worry).
the best alternative is get a bigger RAM

easy fix
1 stop what you dont use from loading up with windows
2 do this your pc is been use up by others

you do make sure you call your (isp) or this will happen
is your pc still slow & your internet you have done a full system scan
with your anit virus /anti spyware you even defragmenter your hard drive
done a scan disk but your pc is still slow and your internet is not as good
then you need to check your router it dont mater what router you have

people in the vicinity is on your network

you call your (isp)
GET THIS SET TO DISABLED

(GAMES & APPLICATION SHARING )
it dont matter what router you have you need to get
(GAMES & APPLICATION SHARING ) set to disable

is your router safe?
you need to call your (isp) server
they have to get you in to your router home page
then from there ..copy & paste the router home page
into a notepad then save that to a back up cd

now from there they have to take you to the part
where (GAMES & APPLICATION SHARING ) is
then you click on ( GAMES & APPLICATION SHARING) icon
then at the top of the page on the right your see
configure.. you click on configure
then you .. UN-TICK .. the box ( GAMES & APPLICATION SHARING)
that is ticked there ...
then you click look down the page your see
<<<
if you have a wireless router
and then ask them where you set up a wpa-security key dont use a 128bit wep key ask to use a wpa- security that is your router security key and you pick the wpa-security key not your (isp)server . just ask them where you set one up they will say use a wep-key ..ignore them you say your going to use a wpa.key and want to know how to set one up and remember you pick the wpa-key not your (isp)server or they will use your network

now you close off the page
and clean out your internet address bar

There are many things you can do. First off I would unload most of your programs so that they are not running when you start your computer. Allow them to run when you need them. That will be a huge difference. Second upgrade your RAM.

Best way to fix it is to buy more memory for your computer. But be careful, it can void your warrenty sometimes.

Or, if you don't want to buy more memory, just run programs one at a time. (A big no-no for mulittaskers :P)

Do you often empty the recycle bin? Delete some of your files you don't need in hard drive to recycle bin and empty it. Or get a bigger hard drive.
