I was going to say the Bible - for it's certainly a novel, not fact - but you made me realize that I know next to nothing of Eastern literature. I would also consider native american cultures, african cultures, i.e. Egyptian, and Roman. Then there are the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Great Library of Alexandria. Those scrolls would be something to see...

I don't know about your Tamil stuff. I thought the oldest literature was the story about Gilgamesh,myself.
