Emo is derived from the word emotional. Emo was at first short for emotional rock. Relatively soft rock with melodies and lyrics that were deep in touch with their emotions. Some emo bands are Senses Fail and Armor For Sleep. There is also emocore which is emo lyrics with hardcore and post hardcore music. Emos are pretty much known as that because they are very dramatic, mostly suicidal and are known as wannabe goths. No one takes them seriously anymore because being emo is so mainstream now.
