If you use internet explorer, you can't. You can in firefox and about every single other browser, but Microsoft decided that it should stay and never go away.
Nahh just kidding there are ways to do it in IE.
Here's one I googled.
"Erasing AutoComplete Responses
I get these questions all the time. The answers are below:
How do I erase my AutoComplete responses?
From the menu bar at the top of your browser, choose:
Tools > Internet Options > Content Tab > AutoComplete Button > Clear Forms.
How do I clear just one AutoComplete response?
In a form element, put in at least one letter so that the AutoComplete responses are made visible. Using your arrow keys, scroll down to highlight the response you want to erase. Push the Delete key on your keyboard. The response will erase itself from the list. "
Have fun :)

Go to google.com and double click on the search field. Then use your arrow keys to highlight the one you want to delete. Then above the arrow keys there is a button on your computer that says "delete". Click it. It should be gone off the list.
To clear it for good, look at the "control panel" on your the top of your internet page, and click it. Find the URL you want to delete then right click on it. Click Delete.
Do both to make sure no one can see it.

Tools>Internet Options>Click on 'Clear History', Then delete Cookies, Then Delete Files. It doesn't totally delete where you've been, you can never really do that. This should be good enough for your purposes.

Have a close look at the icons on the tool bar. Can you see a small black upside down triangle at the side of every icon, well if you click on it a drop down menu will appear with all sorts of things on it.
The one you want is on the left of the search box. look for options and personalize your tool bar.
you can also highlight the search and press delete on your keyboard.
