They really aren't friendly - they really can't be, they're not smart enough. They know how to fly, hunt, eat, and make little hawks, and that's about it. They're motivated by food and they hate being captives - all they want is to escape from you. The way you train them is to withhold food until they're desperate enough to overcome wild impulses and take food from you.
If you're thinking of taking up falconry, don't. Not only is it expensive, it takes over your life until there is no room for anyone, friends, family, or loved ones, who isn't a falconer. It's also cruel - you'd be required to hunt with the bird in order to keep it fed, and you have to kill rabbits with your bare hands. I've seen it.
Hawks and other raptors are so beautiful. Enjoy them with binoculars and let them be where they belong, wild, not in captivity with hoods blinding them and chained by their feet with bells.

Teacherwitch is a very fitting name. Empty wagons ride the loudest. This is proof Of that. Falconry is an incredible sport that is the most natural way you can experience catching game. It takes dedication. falconers are conservationists first and foremost and actually brought the peregrine falcon back from the edge of extinction. Falconers train young birds to Hunt and then released them back into the wild.

I agree with teacherwitch, too. Take up a different hobby! Falcons are most beautiful in the wild where they belong.

Aren't falcons birds of prey ? Pray tell then why they would show affection to somebody who keeps a hood over their heads and makes them sit on their wrist. When the hood is removed, what's a bird to do ? Blink and say,"Polly want a cracker". Heck no. The bird says,"Lemme go. I wanna kill something".
