Okay but "n" is sort of an abbreviation for "and" - like "sugar 'n spice." We Americans like to simplify words wherever we can - t's become d's - etc. So my guess is we'll keep calling them m&m's and keep eating them. Yummy!

did you know rapper Eminem wanted to use M&M as his stage name because the initials in his real name are M.M. (Marshall Mathers) but to avoid any legal issues, he decided to spell out the sound of the two letters, thus Eminem was born.
