Happy energetic ska or swing music can help pull you out of it, if that's your goal. If you want to wallow in your sorrow, there's nothing like the blues.

when feeling sad any music is good to hear, along time ago not so much sadness any more for me....

i use to love listening to the indigo girls live - i'm female so their music empowered me to be strong, and real
when i dealt with family issues it was van morrisson/patsy cline who brought me through those hard times.....

If you feel so compelled to wallow in your misery, listen to radiohead.

If you aren't a glutton for abuse, go hang out with some people. Listen to 311 while playing volleyball or something.
