In my opinion all books that they have adapted to television could possibly be renamed an entirely different name than the original book altogether. They have to compact a book for viewing whilst trying to keep the original plot going however, it seems that the world of books and the imagination is completely different than the world of TV and often even the original plot doesn't work. I would have to say i have never watched a movie yet that has captured the meaning of the book. This must leave authors shaking their heads. I would like to point out one possible exception and that was the day of the triffids. Was a short book with an easy plot and not a bad movie. Thanks.

Stephen Kings IT. There is no way the fear and unknown could be translated into a movie. I can't imagine why they would even try. The Green Mile was a good movie not as good as the book though. I think it may be that books play off OUR imagination and since that is different for each of us their is no way you can make a movie that will incorporate all that our brains are capable of imagining in a book. JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW POWERFUL THE HUMAN MIND IS!

I have to agree on the Stephen King books (with the previously noted exception of the Shawshank Redemption). Most books make disappointing movies. Two stand out in my mind as good. 1. A Room With a View
2. Lonesome Dove (actually a miniseries) I love Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones - they were excellent.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe until the recent live-action spectacular. Especially the incomparable Tilda Swinton as Jadis, the White Witch.
Though I have to agree with Cheaper by the Dozen and the every Stephen King movie, except that I beg to differ as to The Shawshank Redemption and Delores Claibourne. King seems to fare better on the big screen without the supernatural horror themes.
Just my opinion, as always.

Just about every Stephen King book. Cold Mountain was massacred, and even the DaVinci Code was a mess - although it would have been entertaining if you hadn't read the book. On the other hand, if you hadn't read the book, I don't think you could have made ANY sense of the movie. And the ending sucked.

The Animal Farm By Orwell, Jane Eire by E. Bronte, almost any book of the classic literature...
Generally speaking, the book is usually much more interesting than the movie adaptation.
Only some books by S.Sheldon i liked more as movie than the book itself, but he was the producer for his movies, maybe that's why.

The 3 movies made out of the Lord of the Ring books.
Tolkien must have turned around in his grave because these books cannot me made into a movie. and the movies don't do the books any justice.

They did a horrible job with Cheaper By the Dozen. They should have given it a different name so people wouldn't expect something 1/2 way like the book.
