Your premise is faulty. Nobody needs to sacrifice anything to make Bush look bad. He does that all on his own.
If you're talking about Bush's illegal warrantless wiretapping program, there's no security issue involved. Everything that Bush wanted to do for surveillance could have been done under the existing laws, just by following proper procedures.
Bush didn't break the law because he had to choose between the law and national security. Bush broke the law because he couldn't be bothered with following it.
I'm surprised that conservatives, who claim to be so intolerant of criminals and illegal immigrants have no problem when an elected official willfully violates the law for no valid reason.

Let's see, the '93 WTC bombing was a month after Clinton took office. Did he blame on Bush the Elder? Or did he invade a country that had nothing to do with it.No he made sure the ones that were responsible were caught, tried and convicted. They are now rotting in prison. That's more then you can say about Bush's promise to catch Bin Laden "Dead or Alive" He also successfully had the Murrah building bomber brought to justice. And remember that was the biggest terrorist attack on US soil until 9/11. Clinton had a very active anti-terrorist program. But every time he done something about Bin-Laden, the Republicans cried WAG THE DOG!! That's because of the witch hunt the the right put on during Clinton's terms. Oh yea, remember the Millennium Bomber, Clinton's efforts caught him before he could set his plan in motion. Every time Clinton wiretapped somebody, he went thru the FISA Court. He even put forward legislation the strengthen it.
As for Lincoln, he did not declare martial law. That was Jefferson Davis of the Confederacy. Lincoln suspended Habius Corpus which was overturned by the US District Court in Maryland. Lincoln ignored the order. He also set up military courts for civilians which was also overturned by the court. The US Supreme Court ruled in 1866 that that act was unconstitutional. And the Patriot Act was passed only after the anthrax attack against the 2 people that were going to stop it. Senate Majority Leader Tom Dashle and Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy. Now so far the US Supreme Court and a US District Court have ruled that parts of Bush's programs are illegal. What happened to the cry "Rule of Law" that the Republicans loved to say during the Clinton administration?

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

With all due respect, if you think for a moment that you are secure and safe you are living in a dream world. If you are paying attention, the generals are telling us the Army is broken. They are now calling back to duty people who have been out of the Marines for years. If we do not get out of Iraq soon they will have to reinstate the draft. In my job I travel the world extensively and believe me when I say the USA is not respected in too many parts of the world. When I travel the malls in the USA I can buy a tee shirt with the picture of Lance Armstrong or Jerry Rice or many other hero's. I have been to the malls in SE Asia where the pic is of Osama bin Laden. Scary. No man is an Island but we seem to have forgotten that. Do not believe Bush or anyone else who tells you that we are more secure than we used to be. It simply is not true. I wish it were.

Why are Bush and the "neo-cons" willing to subvert both our Constitution and my religion so they can make more money?
Making America millions of enemies is NOT making America safer!
Democrats are trying to save the country from people who buy in to the "Bush league" idea that the war in Iraq has anything to do with the war on terrorism. They imply a link, but go to this page of the Whitehouse.gov Website (this is the REAL website for the President) and read Bush's answer to "Adam" about a "direct link between Saddam Husein and the men who attacked on Sept. 11."
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/01/20030131-23.html
"THE PRESIDENT: I can't make that claim." But, Dick Cheney, very cynically often makes that claim for the President, which is why you may believe it. But, IT IS NOT TRUE!
What part of ANY of this is "American" or even TRULY "Christian"? Bush lied to us and to Congress to get authorization for this war and continues to subvert the Constitution to shut up people who criticize him. He's - hands down - the worst President in history, and we need to stop him and the mindless Republican clones he pushes around in Congress.
And, don't you DARE tell me I'm a "bad American" for criticizing the President! I served in the U.S.M.C. during Vietnam; I was born and raised a a Christian and a rabid Republican; and I lost a friend on 9/11. I have painful first -hand knowldege of the sacrifices being made by our troops and the people of the world.
I love this country more than life itself - as it is conceived and described by our Constituion - not as Bush is abusing it, us, and the whole world right now.
The people who are "willing to sacrifice" this country right now are the people who are chest-thumping blowhards who never served their country, but are eager to sacrifice the lives of the young people who are willing to serve now.
The people who are mindlessly supporting George Bush are the ones sacrificing the country right now. Not the Democrats, except maybe Lieberman.
Pay attention to the facts. As the bumper sticker says, "If you aren't outraged, you aren't paying attention."

No one tries to make George look bad. The country wants answers on the Iraq war. If you have a teenage son, you may
want to question the policy - I am concerned that there will be a draft, because nobody wants to join the service and go to Iraq.
We are losing soldiers everyday, we are not hearing about it. I believe in the war on terrorism, but there has to be a resolution in the area of Iraq. I voted for Bush, I am a rep., but I have questions, because I don't want anything to happen to my son.
If you don't have any teenage kids looking to join the service, you probably don't know what I am talking about.

They're not. Period. In response to the answer assaulting Clinton for what you described as inaction after the Cole, the Trade Center, etc. Try to remember, and I know it's difficult because Rush is really good at clouding memory, that Clinton was dealing with a Republican ruled Congress, and every time he tried to escalate responses to these attacks, or pursue terrorists, they pulled back on the reins and painted him out to be a warmonger. If he hoped to get any legislation through he had to back off or invoke the wrath of the Republicans in charge. Remember DittoHeads, Rush is an addict and has been convicted on drug charges, the president is an ex-cocaine user, and our friend Bill didn't inhale. How's that for balance of power?

Well I definately care about our children's future, I wonder if Bush does? I am not willing to sacrifice the security of the country to make him look bad, he does it on his own. Does he have to worry about his children's future? He doesnt care about anyone but his own kind. His administration DANCES when bad things happen so they can justify the use of the military in countries where his companies can exploit their natural resources. Why are all you Republicans lobotomized? You believe all of the propaganda they shove down your throats. THe US has the most military strength on the planet...really, who would take us on? And for the record, I am not a Democrat but I would rather die than vote Republican

Do you really believe that , of your fellow Americans ?
You know some of your friends and relatives just might be Demo crates .
Think about it , do you really think that Americans that have fought for and sent their sons and daughters to fight for you and your loved ones freedoms , want to have a unsecured nation .
Even though they don't agree with this Administration .
. Even if they don't have the same point of view as you , they will defend to the death , , your right to that point of view .
And they don't have to make George Bush look bad , he does that all by himself .
