I am hoping here that you are talking about other than hood latch inside car so it is "locked up" when the doors of the car are locked. You can buy and install hood pins at just about any parts store and defiantly at any speed shop: then, you can buy some small pad locks with the same diameter shaft as the pins use. If this ain't what you're looking for --try a shrink!

Yes, hydrolock if there is a ton of water coming in or a cracked head or leaking head gasket. It won't really be locked though. You can releave the pressure and roll it over again. Locking generally comes from a spun bearing. Also from a broken piston or broken rod. Yes, sugar in gas will lock the motor. It turns into caramel and acts like sandpaper when it gets in the oil Very bad. Hope this answered your question.

You can lock up a conventional piston powered engine in many ways. One is heating the engine cylinders enough to where the piston is no longer able to travel smoothly through them. This is caused by a lack of lubrication or excessive heat usually. Another way is that the rods connecting the crankshaft to the piston could be sheared, which sometimes is known as throwing a rod, or the crankshaft could have sheared as well causing the engine to be "locked up". Another factor in older vehicles is when rust accumulates in the combustion chamber creating a problem with inner engine movement.
