he eats 2 bowls of cereal right before bed time... he still wakes up at least once and needs a bottle, is something wrong?

If he's eating that much before he goes to bed, he's not waking up because he's hungry...he's waking up because it's a habit. My second son didn't start sleeping through the night until his 11th month. His pediatrician suggested not giving him a bottle when he wakes up. Then, he's going to wake up every night at the same time expecting one. When he cries, go to his room, but don't turn the light on. Don't talk to him, don't pick him up, don't rock him. Stand over his crib and gently rub or pat his back or his tummy, whisper "sshhh sshhh" to him, and try to calm him down.

I agree tat he's probably not really hungry, he's just so used to waking up that he continues to do so. I would probably try to gradually cut down the bottle, for example if you're giving him 8 ounces, go to 6 then 4 then 2, over maybe a weeks time or so, until eventually one night you just go in with no bottle, rub his back a little, tell him "mama's here", and go back to bed. You'll have to do it a few times probably, and he won't like it, but stick to it and after a few nights hopefully he'll sleep through. It may take a little while, but it will happen, don't worry! Just be consistant!

My son is 23 months and still doesn't sleep through the night and he is done with a bottle. My doctor told me to get ride of the bottle and just give him a cup of water. That he is to old to need to get up in the middle of the night for food. If he doesn't have anything that he likes he may give up the habit. This helped me get my son off the bottle but not sleeping through the night. I think his is just habit know. good luck.

i doubt he's waking up because he's hungry. nutritionally babies do not need to be fed overnight starting at 3 months or so. if he's waking up for his bottle, he's probably doing it out of habit and/or because he wants company. read some of the same questions/answers that have been submitted previously on the exact same issue. commenters have suggested giving water instead of formula and gradually weaning him off the feeding. others have recommended crying-it-out (CIT) or a modified version (ferberizing). alternatively, check out: 1) marc weissbluth's "healthy sleep habits, happy child" and 2) moxie.blogs/askmoxie for help on sleep issues.

good luck!
