You want to write something from your heart that she will understand, and also, something that might mean more to her years later. For example, you might want to say how proud you are of her and how much she has grown since you have known her, and then toss is something witty at the end, such as "Now that you know it all, share it with us."

There's nothing wrong with saying "Happy birthday!" and signing your name. In this situation, trying to be clever and write something more personal could back fire on you!
