Does anyone have any ideas of how to get this tap off ? I've tried copious anounts of WD40 to no avail. The bath is adjacent to the toilet - so I just can't get any leverage on it.

Plumbing and hardware stores sell pipe wrenches that are angled or offset to get in hard to reach places. You may be able to rent them without purchasing.

If you are talking about the slip nut that holds the valves to the pipe use either a monkey(pipe) wrench or slip lock pliers. What I don't under stand is why replace the whole fixture?? Why not just fix it(if it was leaking) .From what you say the toilet must be behind the fixture and too close. At worse case just get a wax seat ring and some toilet hold down nuts(and screws) and take the toilet out of the way(be sure and put it back :^) .
