Where did the terms flop, turn and river come from? How was it originated?

These terms developed as a result of America's most popular poker game: Texas Hold 'em. Like many terms in poker, the players generally come up with these words... just like "big slick" is the Ace and King in Texas Hold 'em. The flop term is used because it involves three cards... it reminds you of a belly flop at a swimming pool because those three cards can really excite or irritate your tummy. The turn card is the next card... think of a turn in the road... between a flop and the river. The river card is the last card dealt... basically meaning that it will send one player down the river to defeat! The phrase "I rivered you" means I beat you on the last card.

i believe those are the same terms used in "strip poker"
