Never really thought about that one. Maybe it has something to do with winter being the symbolic "death" of the earth, which comes back to life in the Spring?

Actually, the evergreen tree, holly and mistletoe are the only traditional plants. Poinsettias were "discovered" in Mexico about 150 years ago.

The first three plants were usurped by early Christians to trick the natives into converting.

That is also why Christmas was moved to the end of December, it matches a "pagan" god's birthday. Shepherds would not have their flocks out in the fields in December in Israel.

Yes, you are correct. It would be very bad for people that have dogs or cats if their pet got a hold of one of the plants also. Keep all these plants off the floor and away from your pets and children.

I hadn't thought of that before. I bet it partly has to do with the fact that winter plants don't bloom every spring or whatever so if they get eaten, that's it. No more Christmases for them.

Why would that be weird? Are you planning on having a feast by eating these plants? If you ate most plants you would get sick.

I assumed they were for decoration and adornment, not for eating.

No - I never thought about it. Wondering what made you think about it.

I am going to change the plants in my house this year, though.

Most ALL plants are poisonous to man or beast. Wouldn't it be difficult to choose otherwise?
