I am in my 1st trimester now, and this time and my last time where both the same.
For me, the signs started before my period was due.
1wk after I conceived.
My breast felt somewhat larger, I couldn't lay on my stomach because they where sore and felt more in the way.
For me, it really isn't needles. Just a overall soreness with my nipples feeling raw and very painful if touched.
Even wearing a bra, is painful. Not to mention much more filled out.

That is a very bad indicator of being pregnant. Personally my breast would hurt the way you discribed when I would start my period.
As for your breast hurting due to being pregnant can feel diffrent usually because of growth. I didn't feel any type of pain until about 6 months when I started getting streach marks on my breast. I have heard that when it comes to milk supply a sore or ache feeling with frimness means that your breast are getting full. The best advice would be from the OB/GYN or a lactation consultent.

It felt like some large man was groping me uncontrollibly and constantly for a few weeks in the beginning of all three of my pregnancies. The breat pain started before I knew I was pregnant all 3 times. No needle here, it was pure pain! I couldn't even wear a bra!

i don't think they are suppose to feel like a needle is being inserted into your breast. usually when your are pregnant your breast will be sore or ache when you touch them. when i got pregnant i didn't get this symptom until i was about 6 weeks pregnant.
are you sure you are pregnant????

It's actually breast tenderness that you feel. For example, you won't be able to cross your arms over your chest without them feeling sore. You could get this anytime from a week before your period to not at all. You will almost always have it if you are pregnant.

Mine was the entire boob(s) all swollen and achy. To touch was like touching a swollen bruised area. And they usually grow. You'll know it when it happens. Mine was noticeable before my first missed period. Though I thought it was just PMS soreness and with every missed period it got worse.
I'm a DD anyway so not wearing a bra isn't even a consideration. I even wear one to sleep now. Its more painful for me not to wear one. Its like moving luggage if I roll over in my sleep and I don't have a bra on, I literally have to pick them up and move with them.

Mine feel heavy all the time and occasionally (usually when I get cold or something brushes across my nipple) it feels like someone has taken a frozen steel apple corer and plunged it through the centre of my breast.
(was that too much information?)

My breasts are very tender on the sides. They hurt like you are going to start your period but worse and it usually lasts until the second trimester.
