This all depends on which side of the fence you are on. Because if you work on a building site then you are more likely to have to do physical graft and you will definitely be sweating but what stress is there. But if for example you work in an air conditioned office, then you are not going to sweat much at all, however this could be a stressful job. And as for not getting paid, 95% of the people i know, want more money or could at least do with it. I am in the Army and my days work can be me getting paid to do adventure training where its like woo hoo i am getting paid to this. To me being in Iraq for seven months. Living in poor conditions and getting mortar all night. So i take the rough with the smooth.

This sort of thing used to be said of office workers by those in manual labour. Those holding such opinions were implying that, if you were not involved in carrying out work of a physical nature, you were not doing a mans job. When I was young I was on the receiving end of this attitude. I have done both physical and mental work, and I know that the demands of different jobs vary a lot, but generally speaking, particularly when managerial responsibilities are included, then I would say that office work would be the more demanding. I know that I am generalising, and I am assuming we are talking about healthy people. With most routine manual jobs you can, at the end of the day, switch your machine off and forget about work until the next day. This is also true at holiday time.It is much more difficult to switch off the responsibility side of an office job, also, it is more difficult to recover from mental strain, because you can't relax or sleep properly.

So, to sum up, it's a hangover from the macho working class attitude that used to be directed at non-manual workers by manual workers. There is also a little bit of the, "you think that you are better than us", about it.

I am a dispatcher and I am happy with what I am getting paid. I don't sweat at work, but I do consider my job important. What I do could eventually save someone's life, and that is very rewarding. I don't think I get paid too much or too little. We have great benefits which comes in handy with a baby girl. I know that sometimes my job can be slow, but I take it seriously and work very hard. So no, I do not believe that it is not a real job if you don't sweat.

That's what I like - an easy question. Descartes (I think I've spelt his name wrong - anyway) I think therefore I am.Q Is this a question A If this is an answer
I sweat therefore I work. I work much harder when I'm in the subtropics and it is 80% humidity ie when I'm lying in bed at home
And nobody works in Iceland
Jobs are payment for time or results there is nothing in between but you've done a reasonable 'job' in eliciting responses.
Job's a good 'un

as a mother of three very active toddlers, My job is to take care of them. I do sweat sometimes running around the house, but sweating has nothign to do with a real job, a job that is legal, you get paid, you do honest work and pay taxes, not matter if you make minimium wage or $50 an hour it is a real job. All mommies working at home do not get paid enough cash but most of the time I get paid in hugs and kisses.

I know I don't get paid my "market" value - have been offered other jobs for more money and doing less than I currently do in this job.

I currently look after 50 rental properties - with more coming on every day (therefore checking tenants, references, inventory, problems, credit scores, invoices etc)
Type up particulars of properties.
place adverts.
book on properties (go out and photograph and measure up)
deal with incoming calls.
etc
oh and then I come home -
clean up
ironing
feed dogs
cook dinner
washing
look after 4 year old daughter

Wait for husband to call at 5am in the morning once a week from Basra, Iraq. (god bless him, miss him so much)

so yes I feel like I definately earn my money BUT there is no sweating involved so no definately NOT true.

No, I don't think it's true. I do sometimes get dirty at my job, but most of it has to do with thought. I think people who sweat too much in a 'blue collar job' are probably making less than a lot of 'white collar' workers. Some people work harder physically, but mental jobs can be challenging as well.

I'm not saying hard work doesn't deserve good pay, (I'm pro union) But there are a great deal of very important jobs that involve thought. Look at scientists- you wouldn't be able to ask this question without the technology developed by some guy who didn't sweat at his job. All in All - DO WHAT YOU LOVE!

Rubbish - do as little as possible for as much as possible - the secret is leverage - there is no such thing as being paid too much - ask Bill Gates. The truest saying "people are too busy getting a living to earn any money".
