I agree with every point that you've made. It'd pretty hypocritical the way it's set up. But trust me, that is not a good idea. I bartend, and I'm 19. Personally, I hate booze, but that is neither here nor there. At the bar, I see a lot of 40 and 50 year olds that can't handle the responsibility. Giving teenagers the ability to legally drink is like giving a toddler a loaded gun... it's just an all around bad idea. Furthermore, many studies have shown that the human brain doesn't stop growing and developing until age 21. They need to raise the ages for that other stuff, not lower the age for alcohol consumption.
I think some teens can handle it, but the vast majority can't. See the guy about 18 for girls, and 25 for guys. Why do you suppose he wants that? It's just opening a whole new can of worms. And for the record, if you are 18 and in the military, you can drink.

Amen, brother!! Let's get rid of one piece of hypocrisy in modern life!! All or nothing says I!! Either you are an adult at 18 or 21. None of this in between bullshit! I'd love to see how the military deals with not being allowed anyone under 21 to enlist!! There is nothing more gullible for believing what they say than some 18 year old who thinks they know everything!! I say this as someone who started 4 years in the Navy when I was 18. I was dumb!! But there is something so dumb about being in the 1st Gulf War,drinking overseas and then coming back as a combat veteran, going into a bar in Cheasapeake,Virginia and being reminded that "Oh yeah, I forgot you have to be 21 to drink in my own stinking home!!" My soon to be Brother in law will be 19.He is Ukranian and can go out anytime he wants and have a beer!! I mean he was 17 and out in a bar in Lugansk drinking with me! He's a nice kid! If you're a damn fool you pay the consequences at 18 or 21.

easily no longer. in basic terms via fact somebody is eighteen does no longer recommend they have the skill to make a to blame determination approximately ingesting. there's a reason the ingesting age is 21. In Europe, why it rather is a youthful age is by using the fact from an early young human beings age, little ones are ingesting wine with food. they are used to it and hence greater to blame approximately it. particular, to pass to conflict you'll be 18 although, with the defense force you learn self-discipline. With being criminal to drink at 18, there is not any self-discipline. via having the ingesting age at 18, you're soliciting for disaster. maximum human beings have in basic terms been using 2 years a that factor and would particularly cope with a motorcar because it rather is, no longer to point kill somebody via fact they have been ingesting. So, easily no longer. It desires to stay 21.

There 2 sides to the medal..
1. The way alcool drinking is promoted by medias, it could cause more intoxications, due to imaturity...
2. I saw the worse drinking story before the age of 18, witout survellance, because it is illegal, we must hide, and ussually people drink more like that.
If they had earlier alcool education, with maybe supervision, kids could drink earlier, and maturer.
In France, many kids drink some alcools. But it might cause tolerance, and habits.
It is not for nothing Muslims, don't drink alcool, it is very bad for us.
I dont promete the use of marijuana, but it cause less violence.
I never heard about violence event including only marijuana.
It can start latent mental illness like skisophrenia.
We need more education, and less propaganda on tv about drinking alcool.

I'd have to disagree, after bar tending for 6 six years, you can tell how is freshly 21 or 22 just by the way they handle them selves in a bar. 21 y/o don't know how to act in public while drinking.
Maybe an 18 should be able to by alcohol at the store, but they shouldn't be able to drink it in a public setting.

I totally agree with you. I lived in Germany for six months when I was 17. The drinking age there is 16. We were going to the bars all the time. Do you need me to sign a petition or something?

Yeah it should be lowered.
Here in Canada, its 18 or 19 depending on the province and as far as I know there is no difference whatsoever in underage alocholism, or drunk driving deaths..
I think anyone old enough to die for their country SHOULD be able to legally enjoy a beer that's for damn sure!

I am tired of the joining the armed forces argument. When an 18 year old kid joins the armed forces they don't lead they FOLLOW. They are basically told what to do and how to do it 24/7 - they are not making life altering decisions affecting the world, they are doing as they are told.

In the UK the drinking age is 18 but everyone i know started drinking before then. I think the drinking age should stay the same otherwise it would be encouraging young people that its ok to drink when they aren't ready to control themselves with the ability to say enough is enough.

I agree. They should just lower the age to 18 because that's the age when you're legal to do everything else, why not make it the legal age to drink also?
