Elle Girl, The teen form of Elle. It's very informative, and all the ads are clean-ish, and i think it's actually great for 10 to 20 year olds.
If you decide on Cosmo!girl, you might want to skim over it first, stuff could be inappropriate for a 12 year old. Try and stay away from Teen People, (it's the teen version of People) and Seventeen. (The title tells all, this one should wait until 14 or so.) Allure might be okay, I've never read it, but my friend gets it, and it focuses in on fashion and beauty a lot.
All in all, beware of the little things, like the cover person, curse words, and misleading info. Skim through all the mags until she's 13, or until she is informed about things, and knows what she can look like, do and say. Magazines are very persuasive things, more so than any other type of media i think

Go to a book store and browse what is available. You will likely find no "teen" magazine that you want your daughter to have. However, you might find something else appropriate.

Unfortunately, most of what is available as a "teen" magazine gives the wrong message. Look through them; you'll see what I mean...and especially look at the "advice" columns.

I'd suggest Seventeen, Elle Girl and Cosmo Girl... but remember that most teen magazines have diet and weight loss tips and models with a -0 dress size.
If you think your daughter might fall for "you're too fat compared to all the celebrities" articles, try finding a magazine that doesn't have diet-concerned advice.

well i think i should talk to her because really she doesn't need a teen magazine because magazines say things like 4 example::: ''if u have sex always use protection'' well teen gurls shouldnt be havin sed and teen magazines gives yung girla nd some boys the worng idead about stuff as in like they may say in the magazine ''cussin and dressing like a whore is good'' but den if she does it might changer the way she act.....but all im sayin is that i should think u should talk to her and have ehr to wait until she lik 14 or 15 maybe 16 at the most...goodluck

CosmoGirl. Although some articles may be for older ages they are all appropriate. The magazine is very positive and talks about things other than just beauty and relationships; like girls who are trying to make a difference in their community..

M, Twist, or J-14 sound good to me. It's appropriate for teens. J-14 Teen Magazine is I think the full title. They also include one or more posters. MEGA- sized or pocket-sized

I would go with Teen People to start with and as she gets older add 17 or Cosmo Girl or even Elle Girl. The later mags have many articles about boys, dating etc. That could be a bit much for a preteen.

The Watchtower and Awake! are the first and second most widely circulated religious magazines in the world.

They are available from Jehovah's Witnesses at no charge. A selection of articles is available at their official website:

I agree with anyone who says Girls Life. CosmoGIRL! and Seventeen are obviously directed towards an older crowd [Seventeen, hello?!], and although those are two of my favorites, they often large segments about sex, and they often have graphic stories on rape, murder, kidnapping, etc. Girls Life is really meant for preteens, and I think she'll really enjoy it. If she is into fashion, try Teen Vogue. It is really tiny in size and isn't really a do it yourself magazine like CG & 17.

Good Luck!

I just found one at a bookstore. It's called His Girl. It has nothing inappropriate at all. I am a teenager and don't subscribe to magazines like cosmo etc. National Geographic Kids is also a good one.
