Honestly?

Or are they qualified and can actually make educated determinations?

Thoughts? Comments?

You're kidding right?

First, everyone is qualified to express their personal opinions. It'd be nice if more people actually did some independent research before forming them, but...

Second, the group you're talking about includes almost two dozen people who were at the top or near the top of their particular field for years. Including high ranking military officers and career diplomats.

So, I'd hope that their opinion carried at least as much weight during rational discussions as an opinion that other people agreed with.

As they are former generals and diplomats, probably more than you and I.

The middle east has always and unfortunately probably always will be a troubled region of our world. Until there is a settlement and a reasonable route for peace with Israel, it will continue to be. I am guessing the generals and diplomats do not want another war that will potentially destabilise the region further and cause many thousands more deaths, both militarily and innocent.

Iran is an issue because it takes away from the issues of Iraq, but it also needs to be dealt with. Having said that why is it ok for Israel to have nuclear weapons, but not them they could argue. Personally I think if the nuclear is purely for energy then with close monitoring, which has been offered by Russia and some of Europe, this could be allowed. The oil will not last for ever and planning for the future is a real requirement for all nations.

Hey DEP in reality is anybody really qualified for anything. I believe all elected officials need to be schooled in the areas you listed. But that is not the case. As you know they (both sides) are mostly lawyers, or come from money! Until a real leader emerges all we can do is sit back and argue on yahoo answers.

People that actually served in the military and former diplomats. I'd say they were more knowledgeable about all those things then our current administration!

If Bush has no opposition for his plan to attack Iran then people won't get hyped about it.

It goes back to Brezhnev's statement You need a minority to make the majority fee powerful. (Or something like that)

"21 former generals, diplomats and national security officials"

They know a hell of a lot more about it than anyone on this board.
