I was reading an article about Andrew Yound who was hired at Wal Mart to boost image for the store. Heres a bit of background info... hes a black man, was a former UN ambassador, and civil rights leader I believe. He made the comment when asked what he thought about Wal Mart running mom and pop stores out of towns... and I quote...."Well, I think they should... I think they've ripped off our communities enough. First it was Jews, then it was Koreans and now it's Arabs; very few black people own these stores."
What do you think about his remarks? They are going crazy on the AOL message boards about this! Some are saying it's ok for him to have made this remark because he is Black... I say it is wrong even if he was purple.Heres the link to the story...

I hate to tell you this but - but what andy said is true! I've seen it most of my life.
But what is missing from the equation is that Andy and others like him over that many years have not setup workshops to educate and inspire young blacks to become the entrepreneurs of those kinds of businesses.
Its not enough to complain, one must also seek out a solution.
None of his comments were racist, they just identified the exploiters..

In a sense , he was wrong. This is still America the land of opportunity. If you've ever shopped @ a mom & pop store you'd know why he said what he did. The prices are outrageous.

Boy am I going to get poo poo about this. One of the worst results of desegregation was the failure of black businesses. When there was segregation black folks shoped at black stores. As soon as desegregation hit black folks started going to Safeway and that was that. Same with housing, anyone that could moved out of the "hood" taking with them, money, jobs sense of community. The "best and brightess" left never to return, it is still true today, all anyone is trying to do is get out.

I didn't hear his remark, but IF IT IS TRUE it goes to show that blacks can be as racist as the rest. For some real interesting remarks on the 'black' situation, you should hear what Bill Cosby said about his fellow African-Americans in May.

i don't think that it was ok for him to make the remarks just because he is black. i also don't think that it was racism. he did not as far as i know refer to any other race in derogatory terms. he was basically talking about his experiences. but this is America and we have freedom of speech and people are going to say things that are not nice...

I'm a black man myself and I think his remarks is racist. I hope he isn't on any mind altering drugs? We should have him drop some urine.

It doesn't matter what race he is, it was wrong and he should be ashamed.

Being a certain race doesn't give you the right to be an insensitive jerk.

Racism is not unique to white people. It occurs in every sector of 'humanity'. It is definitely wrong no matter what color you are.
