Does it occur to you that a) not everyone is native English speaking, and b) spelling correction sometimes doesn't work?

How would you feel if you would try to speak Dutch for example, and I would correct you on everything instead of apreciating your efford?

For example, in this question the spelling correction only works in the title, not in this addition.

I totally agree with you, the worst thing is that they understand no matter what, so i don't know what's their point!!, they just like to be cocky

You are correct...and I don't bother people if it is one or two difficult words they had trouble with.

And, I stay out of the sections that are designated for the Dutch, and other languages.

Yahoo is an American company, and set up most of the categories to be in English, so we expect those who visit to have a passing knowledge of English. I would not go to the Dutch page and attempt to post something. That would be bad!

Also, it is nice if people put a little note, as they sometimes do, stating they are from another country, or that their age is 12. I am always considerate to those people.

Even in the add details part, if I'm not sure, then I look the word up. How hard is that? See, that is what gets me, pure laziness. You have a computer, all you have to do is go to dictionary.com, or just google the word, and it tells you the correct spelling.

I have no sympathy for lazy speakers of English. Sorry about that, I hope my attitude doesn't offend you.

I agree. It is not everyone's luck to be educated in the English language. Instead of belittling people who make mistakes, why not show a bit of compassion, send them an e-mail (if possible) and point out their mistakes in a kind manner, and show them the correct way. It is my experience that people who mock other people's spelling, are not too hot themselves in the spelling department. Go well, and God Bless!

You can always spell check using a website, etc. Yes, effort is good though, considering most people in other nations can speak 2-100 languages and here in the US your lucky if you speak english and spanish and fyi...most americans can't spell or speak english.

To be able to understand someone correctly, it is important that the questions be asked using correct spelling ,in order to not be misunderstood by the reader of that question. If they don't be made aware of it now, then they will continue to misspell things in the future and possibly get someone killed by using bad spelling to give instructions(for example).

I would lead with the fact that my Dutch is poor and I am doing the best I can

But wen sumone jyst wheeeels alung and dont care bout gramma or sepling and junk like that, I wonder what it is they are really saying.

This is not text messaging. You can spell with full words and express yourself as best as you can.

You pick your words; otherwise they will pick you and anything can happen

there are two kinds of people in this world:1) those who have nothing to say and therefore comment on spellings and 2) those who have something to say and did not mind the spelling error.

point taken. as a chronic grammarian, i was going to throw in an addendum here, but this observation is no doubt valid and deserves to be respected.

have a good day.

on-line dictionary or purchase one at your local book store.... I don't mind being corrected if the person who is doing it spells their words correctly too ! (It's happened to me)
