I had the same thing happen to me about 4 years ago. I had a poem I had written for my dad. I fell for their scam and sent it in. Now I have no idea who has my poem. They claimed I had won an award at the big "convention" but I never saw anything. Mine was to be published in that book too but I never got the book. I think it's their way of either selling books or scamming people out of their money or stealing poetry from others because they don't have the creativity to write their on. I think they get paid for the poems they receive. I chalked it up for experience but if you find a way to get even with them or "catch" them, I'M IN!

I had a lot of problems with Poetry.com. 1: I made a spelling error and tried to correct it both on line and with the letter they send and they didn't do it. 2: They told me my poem was selected to be published in a book but I decided I couldn't afford to buy the book so I don't know if it ever was published. One thing I am hoping is that they don't think they own the rights to my poem because I intend to publish it and others elsewhere. Good luck on dealing with them.

Poetry dot com is a bit of a money making scam......when they said they would publish you didn't they ask you to purchase something as well.....they do put out books but they do it for their own profits, not yours...If you are a writer keep writing all over anywhere, everywhere.....thats what we do. I was published twice through poetry dot com. it didn't change anything, but in answer to your question about the winter and fall books I would think they would be different.....Write on!!!!

Poetry.com is a load of B_____ my ex gf. was an amateur poet, in all fairness a very good one! ( not just my opinion ) She submitted some of her work to them. She was given the same lame story as you, actually some of her poems have appeared on the website. She was told her work was to be published and" would she like to buy a copy of the the book. when it comes out ."..... ha ha ha !. It was then I realised it was all a scam. forget it!

I think poetry.com is one of the ones that basically collects poems from folks, then tells them theirs was selected to be published in a book... then they make the book and sell it to the people who wrote the poems (who are now thrilled to be published poets.)
I did this with my ex a few years ago... he's *published* now too....

Hi ... you got duped, just like I did and probably about a million other people. True, they do technically 'publish' your stuff, but it is a scam to get you to buy the book. Believe me, you'll be realllll diappointed once you get the piece of **** book. And by the way, EVERYONE is 'selected' to be published. They suck.

Run like the wind. It's a scam - basically it's "vanity publishing."
They include you poem(s) in a book and then charge you an exorbitant price to purchase it.
Don't fall for it.

i dealt with poetry.com a while back. all they are out for is $$$$$. they say that your poetry is going to be published, but then you have to pay a lot to receive a book. plus they offer trophies, plaques, mouse pads, all kinds of stuff just so they can get money out of ya. then you feel obligated to get it, cause it's your own work.

i have lots of poems there and they say that the release date is that time but if you don't buy the book that they offer then your poem will not be in the book! if you want it in the book you have to buy it! i know from experience!
