I'm planning a 4-day trip to San Antonio for Labor Day weekend, and want some suggestions to a nice sit-down restaurant that has good food, but that's not pricey, but maybe family oriented (I'm going with a couple that has a 2 year-old son). I was born in San Antonio, and visit family regularly, but being a native, I'm not very much into the tourist scene. Anything helps. Thanks!

Since "not pricey" is relative, I'll just shoot out some general sugguestions....

The new Landry's restauarant is open at The Tower of the Americas. It's called "Eyes Over Texas" and is the revolving restaurant at the top of the tower.

I haven't been able to try it yet, but I haven't been disappointed in any Landry's restaurant so far.

Landry's also has a Rain Forest Cafe downtown now, and I think it's a great place to take the kids with regard to atmosphere. They have an array of menu items.

I, too, like Tom's Ribs, and County Line BBQ is good too, in my opinion.

Others also gave good suggestions, as well as a few great sites to check out for more ideas.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

I would like to point out that the referral to the Tower of the Americas is uninformed as the restaurant is very pricey. Three of us ate Sunday for about $130 and we did not have alcohol. Entrees were $28 on the average and appetizers $14. It is excellent for an engagement proposal but not kids.
That said, a 2 yr old belongs in McDonalds or tace Cabana, not a nice sit down restaurant.

If you are looking for good Mexican food in a great atmosphere go to Mi Tierra at the old market in downtown San Antonio. Prices are great and the food is wonderful. The atmosphere is pure authentic Mexican. The Margaritas are darned good, too. After dinner be sure to look at the various bakery items that are for sale. I don't have a favorite BBQ place but there are lots of very good ones in S.A. If you happen to go to Austin, I would recommend either Salt Grass just outside Austin or Luling Market in Luling, Tx. Both are wonderful.

What part of town will you be in and what kind of food do you like? Are you looking for some local flavor or is a chain restaurant OK, too.

I always figure that, when in Texas, you gotta have some Barbeque. Best BBQ is at Rudy's. For good BBQ in more of a sit-down atmosphere, try Toms Ribs.

I don't do touristy things anywhere I go. I like to eat like the locals. You should take her to a local spot like most people who live here. Or, if you must do tourist, go down to King Williams Area in Southtown and take her to Rosario's. You might even run into a celebrity. I have known actorTommy Lee Jones to hang out there as well as Sandra Cisneros the writer. Sometimes Sandra Bullock comes in when she's in town from her hometown of Austin. So, who knows?

Texas Pride is good for bbq, Mi Tierra is too over rated-not a lot of food for the price. PF Changs is good in the Quarry. And the small hole in the wall mexican restaurants are always the best. Have fun

It's not in S.A. but whenever I'm in the area I head for Rudy's BBQ in Leon Springs. Had an excellent meal at Ruth Chriss near the old RR depot, too.
