Leaves are not opening up on new shoots.

You should ask on the ABS site. Yes, the american bamboo society. The are a real hard working bunch of people. And, do not over water your bamboo! If the roots sit in water it will kill them. This is one of the tricks to get rid of Bamboo - flood the field, for a week or so.

Black is cool - it should take longer for new shoots to open up because they will be bigger than previous.

In my experience Bamboo needs a LOTof water. I have my black bamboo in a 24 inch pot. I could water it every day and never fill it up. It soaks up so much water! When the leaves curl it is lack of water. So, either you aren't watering enough or the leaves haven't opened yet and you need to be patient.

not opening on new shoots or curling up from no water? bamboo should be in water at all times held up by tiny pebbbles
