Well, not everyone can forgive others, but not him/herself. Some can't forgive others and others can easily forgive themselves (they rationalize.)
But people with scruples and a conscience often find it easier to forgive others than to forgive themselves mainly, I'd say, because they expect more of themselves and because, while they most likely can't know all the variables that motivated another to hurt them, they often can know just why they injured someone else. With others then, that leaves a lot of room for "maybes" as to why they harmed us, and for possibilities that might be considered extenuating circumstances. And, since we DO have scruples and a conscience, we're likely to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The ones forgiving others cannot forgive themselves, because they acknowledge their own flaws, and weaknesses, and it's frustrating not to be able to overcome them. ( I've read once something like... "you need working brains in order to realize that you are a complete idiot" - guess fits this category)
The ones unable to forgive others always forgive themselves, maybe because they are so perfect. No comment on this category.

I believe it is a common misunderstanding that forgiveness is for the one bening forgiven.....It is not, it is for the one doing the forgiving. However I also believe we are all our own worst critics, (if one has morals). I believe we can learn to forgive ourselves but it takes work and practise. You can do it !!!!
