can u have an independent wifi central without being conected to a desk top and use its wireles capability with a laptop? (thas without being connected to the laptop, just wireless)

i'm a little confused by how ya worded the question, but:

yes, sure. a laptop can do anything that a desktop can do. if you currently have to have your desktop on, to use the internet, then you are probably running Internet Connection Sharing or something like that. you don't need to run ICS if you have a router. if it's a wireless router then just turn off the desktop and configure the laptop to go thru the router and out to the internet.

The average life of a regularly used laptop battery is 18-24 months, after which it no longer holds more than 50% of it's capacity. However, overheating of the laptop is more closely associated with insufficient air circulation, a fan not working, or a bad pcb (power control board) - which is what your battery connects to internally.

PS, The newer pc's and laptops are designed to shut down (it shouldn't be crashing) when it gets too hot, in order to protect the internal parts. Not sure what you mean by crashing. What it should be doing is just turning itself off. Most people use 'crashing' to refer to their system suddenly becoming unresponsive, or getting a fatal error message, and their only option is to turn the power off.
