Either can because the dyes that are being used in garment making aren't set. If you want to stop bleeding, use a cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle the first time you wash the garment and it will set the color and keep it from bleeding.

Hot water makes them run. Wash things like dark blue jeans in cold water and a bit of vinegar to keep the color from running.

If the fabric is not colorfast.. then either cold or hot could make colors run BUT.. hot water would allow the running to be more prevalent

When in doubt, always use cold water. Hot water will set in stains, and repeated use of hot water on clothing will lessen the life of the article since it wears down the material.

Reds and dark can run no matter what. But the colors are more prone to run in hot water.

Either can make a color run. Dark colors and reds run especially when they are new.
