I am worried about my water breaking while I am laying in my brand new bed. And also I wonder if it only happens after the baby has dropped. Thanks.

no you don't nessacarily have to drop in order for your water break. all pregnancies are different

Get a waterproof mattress pad for your mattress. You can buy them cheap at Walmart. If you don't have time or the money and have an old shower curtain, you can put that under your sheets instead.

The baby doesn't have to be dropped for the water to break, but it is SAFER if the baby has dropped. If baby has NOT dropped and the water breaks, you can have a cord prolapse which can potentially be dangerous to the baby.

The person above me said, "even then only a small % of women have their water break on it's own." That's just because their caregivers aren't patient enough to wait for it to break on it's own.

Mostly likely your water wont break until you're in labor (so yes the baby will probably have dropped), even then only a small % of women have their water break on it's own. If you're worried about your bed, buy a mattress pad (also called a mattress protector or cover) for it. They're inexpensive, absorbant, and will keep your mattress from being ruined... it's a good idea to keep it on after the baby is born too so you wont have to worry about things like baby spitup and all that postpardem bleeding potentially ruining/staining your mattress.

No it can happen anytime. If you are worried about your brand new bed, then put a plastic cover over the mattress and a cloth mattress pad on top of that. Then if your water breaks all you have to do is wash the sheets, more than likely though your water will break when your on your feet.

I think your baby doesnt' have to be dropped (ie: premature rupture of the membranes)....but MOST times the baby is dropped before your water breaks.

however, if you're close to your due date, I'd suggest putting something underneath you. You could always go out and buy one of those bed pads (the waterproof ones)...

I'm kinda in the same boat with worrying....I sleep on our brand new couch (cuz our bed is too hard for me...LOL) so I've been thinking of placing a garbage bag underneath my bottom area with a blanket over top, just in case. (I am 37 1/2 weeks preggos)

hope that helps.

if it's your first baby, the baby might not "drop" before you go into labor. your water could break anyway. sleep on towels.
