They go for the "I told you so" factor. They'll pick teams that really don't appear to have as big of a shot as other teams so they can say "I told you so" but they're usually wrong. I saw somewhere, one of them actually said Steelers and Seahawks would repeat....How the hell...how much crack is he doing? I think last year somebody picked the Raiders....heh, that was a bust.

I agree, it is unpredictable...how many people expected 13-0 Colts? Nobody except stupid diehard fans who think their team is god or something... 16 games, one game last season in the NFC could have meant 1st round by or not even in the playoffs...A lot of 11-5 records and a 10-6...Carolina was 11-5 wild card, one more win would have put them in the bye game, one loss and a Dallas win would have knocked them out of the playoffs...nobody can predict that kind of thing.

Any one of us have just as much chance of picking the right team as they do. For some reason, in sports people tend to side with what happened in the past. You have seen those stupid stats they bring up during games. "The team leading by 3 points at half has never lost a game on Thanksgiving day when the game started at 1pm when the wind was coming from the south." They get paid to make up stupid stats that really dont impress or mean anything. You or I have just as good a chance as the so called experts when it comes to sports....except if the Steelers are playing in which case the refs will decide that game....yeah right.

Because they've met and possibly know the actual players and coaches. It's hard to make an unbiased prediction when you like or dislike some of the people involved.

Because in sports it's hard to predict things except for college sports

For the same reasons that everyone does. You cannot predict, injuries, mental distractions, or new players on a team no syncing very well.

Sports books and betting.
If they didn't put something out there, half of the people wouldn't lay any money down. People are more eager to put some down if they think they are favored/underdog.

because they do not have crystal balls telling them who will get hurt, get traded, leave early for the NFL, etc. I always thought preseason was fun, but as long as it's played on paper (which it always will be) the preseason is just that, fun. They look bad for several reasons, but rarely is it for making stupid choices. We all make stupid choices at times when our allegiances cloud our judgment, so I wouldn't be too hard on the guys until October!
