They are becoming connected through the mass media and world trade, but the consequences will be negative until religion steps down and lets man use his reason. Religion is a connecting factor on an individual level, between the person and his deities(s), but is an enormous separating factor when individuals form groups.

Social diffusion and technology, they make travelling easier for the people who feel they need to go out and expose all the other societies in the world to their ideas and make them converts. The consequences is that Earth in it self becomes one giant society no longer any ideas that would come from different societies and eventually the world goes to a plateau of evolution until we reach out to the stars. Making the world smaller than it is now (metaphorically) and making the only thing different from place to place the weather and scenery.

Think of a cat walking around in a big room with 5 rocking chairs being rocked and then in a small room with 5 cats and 50 chairs, wouldn't you expect a pinched tail and cats angry crying out about 250 times more often? more connectivity is like a smaller room and more rocking chairs and more cats. Man oh man this is going to be a headache we're actually REALLY going to have to deal with and resolve so many problems or the cats will deafen us with there insentient screeching, metaphorically speaking of course.
I Also happen to think facing our problems and overcoming them will be a challenge, an adventure, and a world wide attention occupying worthwhile noble enterprise worthy of the effort and attention it will get.

The Internet. And not everybody is getting the same messages, but thank your lucky stars were not, can you imagine if there was only one opinion that mattered world wide? That we insure nobody can take over the world thur this media would be ideal, don't you think?
