I ran into this with a client of mine. A "friend" had installed the ink cartridges, but didn't remove the tape seal on the color cartridge before putting it into its slot in the printer. Try checking that first. If the tape's been removed, go to your preference settings on the printer and make sure you don't have "print in gray-scale" checked off. Good luck.

in case you recognize your colour cartridge has ink in it, then it would want to be the carriage its self that the colour ink clicks into, the contact between the ink cartridge and the carriage might want to be worn, so that you eventually end up without electric powered contact, and for this reason no colour, I actually have not tried this yet in case you position the black into the colour area, then print something off and by no skill something looks then it ought to be the carriage contact, in case you spot the black print out then you definately ought to seem on the colour cartridge, it really is malfunctioning, might want to be clogged, contacts on the back desire a sparkling, or perhaps probably damaged some how, good luck with it.

check the cartridge connection pad they could be dirty, if isn't a new one it may be empty, get a new one or refill (cheaper!)
also check you setting maybe is set to black & white only...
Hope that help.
