What about all those friendship, coimmerce and navigation treaties that guarantee national treatment for investments? And OPIC and other insurance schemes that mean the government insures losses of investors in nationalized companies (other countries have similar programs).

Then there's coal, banking, insurance . . .

Thatmay be a good idea economically for america, but its there oil and we have to get access to it far and square, either by taking over the country, or tradeing with the oil companies governments.

Take over? I guess since we're the ones that discovered there was oil there in the 1st place. most of the dimwits above don't know that though. Your idea is a great one but is highly unlikely to ever happen but nonetheless, I agree with you.

Need to turn attentions to the homeland companies first... THEY are the main reason we pay so much at the pumps because they can raise prices as much as they want (like the $2.25 to over $9 a gallon last year) and go completely unpunished as long as the current president is in power.

gas is sold on the stockmarket as a commodity so anyone who has shares in the oil companies make profit off of high gas prices and laugh at you for crying theres a lot more guilty than the big oil companies talk to your neihbors, relatives, friends ,anybody who has stock . thier also a big problem because they like their portfolio

Would never happen, most of the world is anti american already and for that exact reason you just gave us in the form of a question. They are worried that if we go into Iraq and other places and try to tell them what to do then their countries will be next. What most of them don't understand is that NATO is trying it best at resolving things that will have global impacts. We'll travel the world stopping at each country that has at least 50MilBarrels (MiBrls) of oil. Then we'll nuke the capital of that country and then we'll build a pipeline using slave labor and we'll pay them in food. Well pipe the oil to our island. We'll even nuke Washington and pipe the US oil to our island. Then well burn it because we can only drive so much in a day and we have to use it up before someone steals it from us. We may cause global warming but we can use our huge fuel supply to drive to the moon and set up some petroleum based housing. OK. Where do you want to meet to finalize the plans and get started?

We actually owned many of these companies at one time, but the local dictators waited until we had the facilities in place then nationalized all our assets and took them over.
