Maybe you should get a second or third opinion. The condenser is usually part of the radiator and maybe it got bent.to replace the condenser requires The system to be evacuated of refrigerant and new condenser put on. vacuum checked to dry and recharged. If system is working it may be OK, or could be damaged and have a slow leak. all of which brings me back to my first suggestion. Get those estimates and then decide.

The collision center has the difficult job of making sure all damages are recorded on the estimate. If they don't point out an obvious damage, it can be hell to get the insurance company to pay for it later. You may not need the condenser, but if it is bent, they have to point it out.

Get another opinion. Better yet, have a friend who knows about cars look at it, then you can march back into the place with confidence and tell them you KNOW you don't need a new A/C condenser. The sad but true fact is many car repair places prey on women because they think we don't know anything about cars. Makes me so mad! My brother doesn't know a thing about cars either but he never got ripped off at Jiffy Lube, whereas I did.

I work at body shop and it is possible that in needs a condensor do to the fins being bent. If you are paying out of pocket tell them not to put one in, or ask them to show you the damage. If it's the insurance paying for it I wouldn't worry. Most insurance companies require pictures of damaged parts or they come out and inspect the car themselfs. Hope this helps out.

If the AC works then don't fix it until it goes out. It's not like the price is going to change down the road if it needs repaired and an AC unit is very easy to change. You could probably do it yourself.
