I installed PC Tools Registry Mechanic on my Dad's computer and now the tray in the lower right is not full. Also Windows Media player will not work because there is no sound device. Is the software, ie registry Mechanic doing it or is my Dad's computer failing. Also, I installed Windows Live Toolbar, but it will not show. Yes, I checked in the toolbars under the view tab.

Open PC Tools Registry Mechanic again then find the menu backup or restore registry. It's the feature that must have on any kind of this utility software.

If you don't found that menu then you can try to restart the Windows then press F8 until you see the menu. Choose the menu kind of recovery or something like that ( I forgot the exactly name of that menu )

Next time before you will do anything relate with registry then you must backup it before do anything on it.

Hope this helps.

Well, the first part is that there is probably spyware on the computer. The second part... you probably let it get there by intalling all of those programs that are entirely unecessary. No sound device would indicate that a driver is missing, but spyware can usually muck things up pretty badly. Take it into a professional to get it checked over first for spyware, and then for possible corruptions in the operating system. When that gets done, don't install random programs anymore.

i tried before, several registry fixes. If they are trial basis, they might only fix 10% of the problems. Others I tried erased essential hidden files. Best of luck. The blank screen thing with no icons happened to me. Regestry fixes are mostly not necessary to use.Just be careful what goes on or off and what you open, close or delete.

if every thing was working well before you installed the software, then you are the one who spoiled that PC
