Defintely John Carpenter's Halloween which led to the string of Michael Myer's movies.

I just love it when the ending comes and Jamie Leigh Curtis says to Donald Pleasance, "Was that the boogeyman?"

To which he replies, "Yes, my dear. I'm afraid it was."

The original Nightmare on elm street.....because the rest were crappy sequels that just never had the fright factor that the first one had.

All have been listed, but it really was the "first ones" for each that had the impact that horror movies are lacking these days. They really don't make them like they used to, but at the same time. We have seen so many since the originals, that there aren't a lot of scary type story lines that are still original, without pulling something out of the classics. When you watch a new movie and constantly remember the first time you saw a scene like that or how the movie rips off some other movie it takes away any scared factor that might be there if it was a totaly original idea.

Plus CGI blood just doesn't cut the same mustard as some of the old exploding blood packs that would leave the main character drenched in blood and droplets on their faces, stuff like that adds realism. Nowadays it's all cgi blood, and it looks very fake.
