In the first round of the MLB playoffs can two teams from the same division play.

No. If the wild card comes from the same division as the team with the best record, the wild card plays the division winner with the second-best record, and the team with the best record plays the worst division winner.

So, were the season to end today, in the AL, Detroit would play Oakland, and the Yankees would meet the White Sox.

Which is what's going to happen in October anyway.

No. Say in the AL, these teams make the playoffs:
Tigers
White Sox (Wild Card)
Angels
Red Sox,

Then the Tigers and White Sox won't play (even if Detroit has the best record). The Tigers would play the team with the worse record out of the Angels and Red Sox, and the other would play the White Sox.

im pretty sure that cant happen even if the 1st seed and wild card are from the same division....well find out when the tigers win the central with the best record and the twins snatch the wild card
