When I turn my desktop computer on it just sounds like it is running but won't start up. The hard drive light blinks a few times then goes off. My mouse won't light up but when I plug it into my laptop it lights up. All the cables are connected and everything. Could this be something wrong with the power in it or something else?

Your hard drive may be dead. Look on the website of your hard drive manufacturer for diagnostic tools. Load the tools on to a floppy or bootable CD and have your computer boot. Then run the diasnotics and it'll tell you if your hard drive is dead or not.

Or drag your computer on down to the local computer shop and tell them the problem.

Fair chance your motherboard is touching the computer case. If this happens, your computer will not start up; this is why they provide plastic mounts for your motherboard.
Otherwise, your board may have gone t*ts up on ya.
