Crying over having to put my fifteen year old beloved dog to sleep. Then, calling my sister in Houston to tell her how sad I was and having her tell me a story about our two sons going camping together in Sequoia. My son, the avid outdoors man, who goes rock climbing and mountain biking every weekend was too lazy to put the food away in the proper receptacle, even though his less experienced cousin kept asking him, "Don't you think it's a good idea to put the food in one of those bins?" He'd seen signs all over the park earlier in the day and they'd been given flyers when they checked into the park. In the middle of the night, the cousin woke up to my son cursing and swearing at three bears who were eating their food. He had to chase three bears away in the middle of the night who made away with a package of cookies. The other campers woke up and offered to help. My son said, "Nah, I'm good. I got it."

We laughed to hard I nearly wet my pants. And, I cried all over again for a different reason.

Variety. I grew up in a really small town where there wasn't a lot of diversity. Now that I'm older and have seen more of the world (and live somewhere else) I realize how great it is to meet people who are different. I can't imagine what life would be like if we were all the same!

The sounds of birds on a summer morning, The sound of the crickets at night. The feel of a cool breeze on my face. Looking up at the stars at night. The feeling of hugging my children or husband. That's the best feeling in the world. But not spiders, hate those little things. LOL

I love the sunrise on the sea; it has given me strength in times of trouble. I love to have my cat curl up next to me and purr. I love having old and almost forgotten friends e-mail me unexpectedly or show up at my door. I love having coffee with a new friend. I love doing something I didn't want to do -- cuz then it's done. I love being able to get through each day. The tiny things are what get me by.

The sound and smell of a rain shower.

Butterflies.

Bird songs.

Big white fluffy clouds.

A perfect rose.

The way the American flag looks blowing in the wind.

The wonders of nature.

Loons on a lake.

The joy on the face of an expectant mother.

There are so many little things that bring a smile to my face.

Flowers, bees, birds, cats catching birds (and being sad for the bird), to have long and interesting talks with my wife or a friend, sunshine, view to the lake and the mountains, rain after heat, sunshine after long rainy period, good food, good architecture, intelligent jokes, smell of freshly cut grass, stardust, grasshoppers chirping, candlelight, diligent car driving, to go to bed when tired, have a shower after working in the garden - etc.

Listening to the birds every morning; going to the beach and putting my feet in the ocean; seeing the moon fading away as I go out to get the morning paper -- I just love waking up and having another shot at another day!

For some reason, I love it on those days, at sunset, when the sky is multi colored and the clouds look really neat. Just a little thing but I notice it every time.
