Companies have to make their products non-toxic for humans because of their fear of lawsuits. Animals don't sue them so they don't insure that animals are safe when the products are used.

Aspirin is non-toxic and it is deadly when given to cats. Chocolate is non-toxic and many dogs die from an overdose. A cat usually isn't interested in it and it can poison a cat too.

Cleaning products are labeled non-toxic and chlorox is very environmentally unsound. It poisons our world. Non-toxic cleaning products won't hurt people (as long as they are not directly ingested). When cat walks across a floor cleaned with these products it will lick its paws dry or clean and get the stuff into his system. Because of size and other considerations the cat may be harmed greatly by doing this.

Unless the product specifies that it is non-toxic to pets, don't simply assume that is. Simple things like Tylenol and Pepto Bismol, for example, are non-toxic to humans but they can kill your cat.

If there is a specific substance you're concerned about you can call your local Poison Control center (they're usually listed in the front of the phone book) or your veterinarian and ask for more information.

Thats a good question. I think that it means just for people because most animals can't eat what we humans can. For example, a chocolate bar is non-toxic to us, yet it is toxic to dogs.

No...it only means non-toxic to humans.

Chocolate is poisonous to dogs, cats, and ferrets.. De-icing salts used to melt snow and ice are paw irritants that can be poisonous if licked off. Many common medicines, such as Tylenol, Advil and Aspirin are toxic to pets. Obviously, they are not toxic to us.

If it doesn't mention animals, then don't assume it's pet-safe. It also depends on what the item is. I agree with the other poster: call the manufacturer, if applicable. If it's a food item, ask your vet.
