LoL. Cool question.
In this society I'd say it wouldn't take much but it depends
on the type of strangeness and also where you are. Go to NYC and you can pretty much get away with anything. I think people are trying to outdo each other in strange there. Shoot, the naked cowboy wears nothing but a hat, cowboy boots, briefs and a guitar and he's not looked at twice.
If you tried that in a small town it's the deluxe white padded room for you.
As long as you're not harming anyone I think you can get away with a lot strangeness but if you disturb people too much you may end up getting slapped :))
I find it strange when i see people going into a church on Sunday. Nothing against anyone's religion but it strikes me as totally strange that anyone would go into a stuffy church--on a nice day-- and listen to old words and be told how to live and that we're sinners. But if someone felt moved to just dance in a park or cry at how beautiful nature is or hug a tree just for no reason it would be viewed as strange. Strange.
I personally like strange. I feel comfy around strange outside of the box people. Hmmmm........does that make me strange also? LOL

believe me,it takes a lot more effort to get locked up for the night without actually breaking the law, then you may get fourteen days or twenty eight days assessment in a place of safety usually a hospital for the menally ill. the problem is if you act strange people accept you more readily as long as you are in no danger or causing a danger to others, my advice is dont act strange near any children or schools you wont see the light of day for three month ,then you carry the stigma of a possible sex offender, better to be eccentric, with character not looney tunes.

Glad this one is still open .. lol .. saw it yesterday .. but I still conclude I may not be "the best" to ask .. lol .. Once almost had that done .. despite not harming anyone .. verbally if I hadn't stood my ground .. I might be in a padded cell and on meds now .. have known some adults who survived such tragedies .. the only crime I could see in them was "they were sensitive artistic souls with wealthy conrolfreak parents" ... let me tell you , in the context of some societies .. "being different or strange" can have its dangers ..

It depends on your version of strangeness.
If your strangeness is along the lines of you twirl around incessantly in public because you fear Zarquod the Space God is behind you (and we all know he always sneaks up from behind you) with piles of shaving cream on your head, then I'd say no.
However, if it's along the "we all must die and here's this nuclear weapon I'm about to detonate" strangeness, and the Geiger counter's reading high, then I'd say yes.

Until your "strangeness" becomes a danger to yourself or others, you can get away with a great deal!

Just go with what makes you happy. Let me know when they said "when" and put you in the loony bin so I stop before I do the same thing.....OK?

If you have money, you can get away with anything. Look at Bush who thinks that god is talking to him.

Do anything you want. If they lock you up, it is proof that you won.
