CONGRATULATIONS!!! Just think of something that was really upsetting to you something that will actually make you cry actually put yourself in Anne Frank's position how would that make you feel? Just practice with friends or family see what they think of your "cry". You'll do fine. They obviously thought you were good why else would you have landed the lead role?! By the way I LOVE the story of Anne Frank!! GOOD LUCK

One of my friends sister played the part of Anne Frank in my community play house and a way to make yourself cry is to try to believe all this is happening to you try to be the character and maybe you'll start spreading some tears. (Of course this is easier for people who cry in books and movies all the time if they are sad)
^^^^^^^That is a great answer and you should try it but what you could also do is go back toa time in your life when some thing REALLY sad happened and it should make you cry. or you can just like think of your mom dying. or thin k of something bad happenening to someone you REALLY love. it always works for me.

- I think you have to do either one of two things:-
- get yourself so into the role of anne frank - try and understand her predicament, her choices (or lack of), her position, her future, her worries, her closeness to success and that will bring anyone close to tears
- or you could try and put yourself in a situation that is/was a very emotional time for you -
Remember ur acting so when you cry u dont have to cry it's getting the first few tears out.

First of all, congratulations! To really "dig into" a character, find out everything you can. It's actually easier for you, since you're playing a real person- all the info you need is right at your fingertips. Once you have learned about Anne, you can begin to bring her into yourself. Just remember this: portray her, don't imitate her.

I played the mother in the play version about 3 years ago.
Remember, Anne is just like any girl going thru the changes and the ups & downs of any noraml teenege girl-rebelling against her mother , liking boys, being defyant, ect.
Read, read, read everything about her history-try to know much about the charachter as possible! History can help you best when getting to know the character!
good luck!!

Get into the character's perspective. Imagine that you are her and that her experiences are yours. Then imagine what you would feel and how you would react as if it were happening to you. This will make your performance believeable. At the point where she cries, make believe that it's happening to you, and you'll probably cry without much effort. It's a very sad story; it's easy to cry about it.

good for you, it's a wonderful role. i would watch the film, etc. versions for background; and of course, if you haven't already, read the book. also, a bit offbeat, astrologically, as i recall she was a gemini with moon in leo. these energies make one very cheery, chatty, creative, lively, happy and friendly. you could reseach her chart and use this info to advantage. also, given the circumstances, and her personality, can you imagine how repressed and imprisoned she must have felt? be diligent; you'll do a fine job. as for crying, research "method acting"? always worked for those folks. best of luck! :-)

So very cool for you!
Advice: try to imagine yourself in her position, as if everything that happened to her is happening to you right now.
In your mind, replace the characters with people that you know.
The best way to make a believable performance, crying or otherwise, is to make yourself understand how you would feel if you were going through what your character is going through.
Oh, and practice! "Cry" over and over!
Good luck
