well:ballack vs gerrard:

I agree Gerrard is a good player no doubt about that, but Ballack is just different class he can change a game on his own Gerrard can`t. Yes Gerrard played good in the CL , but clearly struggles on the international stage for England. Ballack is just amazing on the international the biggest stage.

Gerrard is more complete then Ballack, because he is also a fantastic tackler, but that`s it Ballack is a legend in the making and Gerrard will be remembered as a good player, but not a legend. I just can`t see him really make an impact for England in a World Cup or European Championship and that`s the place where legends are born in my opinion. Not Premier League or CL the World Cup and European Championship that`s the "birthplace" of footballling legends.

Ballack already showed in Japan 2002 some fantastic performances and nearly single-handelely led Germany to the final and he is definately a better player now.

Both are good goalscoring midfielders and always score a few goals every season, but the international record clearly shows who is the better player.

Gerrard: 37 caps = 6 goals
Ballack: 60 caps = 28 goals
.................
John Terry is an immense player, and will be a great Captain. I would still have prefered Stevie G to have got it as I think he would provide the drive from midfield, and would be a more effective leader.
............
joe cole:
joe cole was perhaps not at his usual high level during England's match against portugal which they lost on penalties..he made some of usual darting runs but was proven not to be as effective against the defense
joe cole is a very talnted individual and i am sure he will be back to his good performance in chelsea in the new season...he will surely be a major influence in the success of England in euro 2008

surely you can't compare someone like shevchenko with john terry since they have totally different roles...but in terms of their positions...and all round footballing ability, influence on a game etc, id say gerrard...i haven't seen ballack play enough to be honest
